This 2-day course supports all Evinrude and Johnson outboards equipped with the Ficht Fuel Injection system. It reviews the principles of operation for the engine management system, ignition, fuel and oiling systems, and all related components. Emphasis is placed on fault finding, diagnostics, service procedures, installation and test equipment.

PROGRAM CONTENT:

·FFI Diagnostic Procedures
Introduction to the Computer Diagnostic software and hardware required to properly service troubleshoot all FFI models. Diagnostic procedures that do not require the use of a laptop computer will also be presented along with various troubleshooting tips that can be used to maximize time. Familiarization with the System Check multifunctional gauge will be included.

·FFI Engine Management Systems
Simplification of all the different input and output devices/sensors and how the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) or EMM (Engine Management Module) controls all functions of these devices.
·
·FFI Ignition and Electrical Systems
Detailed discussion of FFI Electrical and Ignition theory of operation. The proper use of electrical test equipment and testing procedures will be presented along with troubleshooting tips. Explanation and use of colored wiring diagrams will also be covered.

·FFI Tools and Equipment
Explanation of the service tools and equipment required to service FFI models. Plus, tips on how to use test equipment that you already own.

·FFI Installation and Linkage Adjustments
An overview of procedures and considerations for the proper installation and linkage adjustments of all 60 degree and 90 degree FFI V-4 / V-6 models.

·FFI Fuel and Oiling Systems
Principle of operation, servicing, testing and diagnostic procedures for the ECU controlled fuel and oiling systems utilized on various FFI models.

·Field Service Situations
Presentation that will familiarize the technician with all field fixes, updates, modifications, etc. that would apply to specific FFI models and 60 degree V-4 / V-6 carbureted models.

·FFI History and Model Identification
Detailed overview on the history of Ficht and how to identify all the various versions since the first model introduction. Explanation of Model Identification system for all OMC products.

·EPA Regulations An overview of the latest U.S. Emissions regulations and how they legally affect you and your dealership.

·60 Degree OIS 2000 Ignition Systems
Principles of operation, servicing, testing and diagnostic procedures for the Optical Ignition System used on all 1991 and newer 60 Degree carbureted models.

·60 Degree Carbureted Fuel and Oiling Systems
Detailed discussion of 60 Degree V-4 / V-6 fuel and VRO oiling systems. Time saving troubleshooting tips for these systems will be presented.

INSTRUCTOR
Jarrett Young is a seasoned veteran of the Marine Industry. Originally from northern Florida, he served as Service Manager of a large drystack marina in Panama City until 1978. At that time he moved to Atlanta to become an outboard training instructor for Outboard Marine Corporation. By 1982 his abilities earned him the position of senior instructor. In this position he guided new instructors through orientation on OMC products and helped them polish their teaching and communication skills. In 1986 Jarrett became Manager of OMC's Regional Technical Training Center in Atlanta. As manager he increased attendance by 100% within ten years. Jarrett’s outstanding leadership and training skills earned the Atlanta center the distinction of being the “Premier” training facility for OMC. He was instrumental in the development of the New Technology courses for OMC such as Ficht Fuel Injection Systems, and Four Stroke Systems and Technology. He is well versed in the latest technology used on all the OMC FFI systems and diagnostic software.

Jarrett has presented training courses for OMC all over the United States and Central America. His facility was selected to present all training for specialized government agencies and equipment such as the Submersible MARS engine for the Marine Corps. He also served on the Georgia State Board of Technical Education during the curriculum revision for the Marine Technology program for the state of Georgia. He is an advisory board member for North Georgia Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College. He currently resides in Fayetteville, Georgia.
