06/03/04 Yanmar offers new technical training program
United States
Yanmar Marine International is using a more centrally coordinated approach to implement new technical training sessions for its distributors on the newly released 3YM30, 3JH4, 6SY and 8SY marine diesel engines.
“Previously, Yanmar trainers worldwide worked independently to develop programs,” Greg Eck, special projects manager for Yanmar Marine Corp. USA in Adairsville, Ga., said in a statement. “In order to be more efficient and consistent, this new system was built cooperatively, and will better serve Yanmar marine distributors.”
Eck, who is responsible for coordinating the training programs worldwide for Yanmar, said the new procedure allows distributors to attend training in any desired location. Yanmar recently held eight training sessions at Georgia, the Netherlands and Panama locations.
To arm distributors with information to host their own sales and service training, and prepare boatbuilder presentations, Yanmar provided a CD containing the training PowerPoint presentations, CAD drawings of all new products, PDF files of manuals, and high-resolution photos.
Eck said some European distributors attended the Georgia sessions in order to tour the factory where the 4LH, 6LP and 6LY series engines are built. While there, they shared market information, service issues and their culture with other distributors.
“Their presence added a new dimension to the training and was well-received,” said Eck.
