01/02/04 NMSE '04 Addresses Service Issues

In order to help improve service quality in the marine industry, The Association of Marine Technician's Annual Trade Show, the National Marine Service Expo, will be offering eight in-depth technical workshops for 2004. This training is becoming necessary to help address the critical shortage of qualified marine technicians in the marine industy. Quality service starts with education, and never before has education become more important due to the newer, more sophisticated marine engines.

This year, for the first time, the NMSE workshops will be sixteen hour programs, with part one being held at the Sheraton World Resort Orlando, and part two concluding at the Marine Mechanics Institute. MMI is being used for the hands-on portion of the workshops when running engines are required.

Most workshops are already approved for Marine Industry Certification for MIC-Technical. The NMSE workshops are worth 16-hours toward MIC.

In addition, this year AMTECH will be offering a new workshop entitled, Electrical Troubleshooting, Theory. This new workshop will also become part of AMTECH's Field Training schedule. The course covers troubleshooting electrical problems in vessels. This new program was a result of many requests from technicians in the field wanting this training.
