COURSE PROFILE (16-hour course) Note: NMSE version of this course will be 8-hours:
This 2-day course supports all Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) outboards. It reviews the principles of operation for the engine management system, ignition, fuel and oiling systems, and all related components. Emphasis is placed on fault finding, diagnostics, service procedures, installation and test equipment.
PROGRAM CONTENT:
· This weekend program is tailored to all outboard technicians regardless of your level of experience. Important basics will be stressed, along with in-depth servicing and time saving diagnostic procedures that are field proven.
· Reduce your servicing and troubleshooting time considerably on DFI systems, particularly the ones that are most often misunderstood.
· Develop a complete understanding of all the ECU/ECM/EMM controlled operating systems. Find out that these systems aren't as "Mysterious" as you think they might be.
· Learn how to quickly determine whether the problem is a fuel, ignition, oiling, mechanical or Engine Management System problem.
· Learn that it doesn't take that many special service tools to be able to properly diagnose, service or troubleshoot the DFI systems, and that you don't have to be an "Electrical Genius" to service these engines.
· Find out what types of electronic equipment and software can be used to enhance diagnostics of DFI Engine Management Systems.
· Learn how to understand and use the engine wiring diagrams to save valuable time in troubleshooting ignition and electrical problems.
· Learn how to avoid making some of the most common troubleshooting and servicing mistakes. You will find that these can be easily avoided and save you lots of time, money and frustration.
· Develop a great level of confidence of DFI systems that will have you taking in those "problem engines" instead of sending them away. This will put more money in your pocket instead of your competitors.
INSTRUCTORS:
David Eastwood is a seasoned certified marine technician. He is the Marine Propulsion Systems Instructor and Coordinator at Carteret Community College in Morehead City, North Carolina. Under David’s leadership and training style the program has had major attendance improvements and job placements for students. David has many years in the industry as a technician giving him a very clear understanding of what needs to be taught to give his techs the best training for the real world. To keep up in the rapidly changing marine industry David attends as many training programs at different marine training centers as he can in order to share his knowledge with his students. David’s program has attracted government agencies, such as the U.S. Coast Guard where he trains the small watercraft engineers to maintain and repair their vessels. His program also receives large support from major marine engine manufacturers. They assist him in training on their products for his students, government, and AMTECH technicians to better understand their products to get the best service and reliability. David also teaches the Direct Fuel Injection systems program for AMTECH across the country and at the National Marine Service Expo in Orlando. In addition to his many certifications, David is also a Certified Scuba Diver and a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain. Mr. Eastwood is currently a member of the AMTECH Board of Directors and he is an active member of is a member of the Marine Industry Technical Education Council (MITEC).
Jarrett Young is a seasoned veteran of the Marine Industry. Originally from northern Florida, he served as Service Manager of a large drystack marina in Panama City until 1978. At that time he moved to Atlanta to become an outboard training instructor for Outboard Marine Corporation. By 1982 his abilities earned him the position of senior instructor. In this position he guided new instructors through orientation on OMC products and helped them polish their teaching and communication skills. In 1986 Jarrett became Manager of OMC's Regional Technical Training Center in Atlanta. As manager he increased attendance by 100% within ten years. Jarrett’s outstanding leadership and training skills earned the Atlanta center the distinction of being the “Premier” training facility for OMC. He was instrumental in the development of the New Technology courses for OMC such as Ficht Fuel Injection Systems, and Four Stroke Systems and Technology. He is well versed in the latest technology used on all the OMC FFI systems and diagnostic software. Jarrett has presented training courses for OMC all over the United States and Central America. His facility was selected to present all training for specialized government agencies and equipment such as the Submersible MARS engine for the Marine Corps. He also served on the Georgia State Board of Technical Education during the curriculum revision for the Marine Technology program for the state of Georgia. He is an advisory board member for North Georgia Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College. He currently resides in Fayetteville, Georgia. Mr. Young currently serves as AMTECH Vice President, and he is an active member of is a member of the Marine Industry Technical Education Council (MITEC). |
